The entire UPSDA family mourns the loss of of our friend Patty Holman, who passed away on Saturday, July 30 in Marquette. Patty was a long time volunteer and ran our Silent Auction for many years. Her positive spirit and enthusiasm will be missed by all of us. We will post more information as it becomes available.

Ever wondered what its like to stay awake for 36 hours straight while driving all over Marquette and Alger Counties while it snows? Well, Brenda Ransom has been doing just that for almost 30 years and she can tell you all about it. Brenda is one of the 800 volunteers that make the UP200, Midnight Run and Jack Pine 30 a reality every year. She volunteers as a judge drivertaking the race marshal to checkpoints and wherever else they may need to go during the race and shes perfected her role over the decades. Brenda shared this firsthand account of her experience as a driver.

Need a sled dog fix this summer? Youre in luck because musher Laura Neese is opening MI Dog in Newberry, MI on May 28, 2022. Her new summer sled dog experience will give visitors a chance to learn about dog sledding and meet her team of dogs, including dogs that finished the Iditarod and the Yukon Quest. Laura works and races for Natures Kennel and shes run the UP200 and Midnight Run many times.

As a club leader for Organization for Outdoor Recreation Professionals (OORP) at NMU, I was
so excited to find an opportunity to both winter camp and volunteer our time. OORP is a club
dedicated to providing new outdoor experiences and skills to students while building a network
of outdoor professionals and enthusiasts. Working and camping at the H58 road crossing seemed
like a great way to get involved in the UP200. I had the opportunity to mush with Natures
Kennel my sophomore year of college as a class field trip, which made me especially excited. I

Longtime Trail Crew member Jon Carlson passed away on February 22. Jon was a true race friend who loved the outdoors and helped with the building and maintaining of the race trails for many years. Our deepest condolences to Jons family. A full obituary can be found here. Jons family has generously asked that donations in Jons memory be made to the UPSDA.

The UP200 teams that leave Wetmore before 9am will finish in Marquettes Lower Harbor Park. The UP200 teams that leave Wetmore after 9am will finish at the Casino in Harvey. See below for the location the teams will finish. The reason for having 2 finish lines is for safety consideration given the time spread of the UP200 teams.
