The Jack Pine 30 is a 6-dog 30-mile competitive trophy class race from Gwinn to Marquette on Saturday, February 20. The major sponsor is Bell Hospital of Ishpeming. The entry fee is $70, and the deadline is February 17. Each entrant receives a T-shirt. The mandatory musher meeting is at 8 am Saturday at the Gwinn High School Cafeteria. The spectator-friendly race starts at 9:30 am at Larry's Family Foods. The Jack Pine finish is adjacent to Upfront and Company, Marquette; the finish line aligns with Upfront's balcony where people can watch the Jack Pine teams finish from about 11:30 am to 3:00 pm. Upfront is hosting a Winter Warmup Party in its Ballroom, open to the public, from 10 am to 4 pm that day; the awards ceremony will commence there after the last team finishes. The fastest 8 teams will receive engraved plaques, and the Red Lantern Award will go to the last team to finish. For general information call 906-249-1011; to volunteer call 906-249-4368.
