WINNER OF THE UP200 RUN FOR 2012 was……..

Ryan Anderson from Ray Minnesota

Ryan Anderson, a carpenter from Ray Minnesota who began his passion for sled dog racing at five years of age has once again won the UP 200 tying the record of three straight wins with Keith Aili. Ryan’s extensive experience includes the Empire, Beargrease, Midnight Run, Mid NN 150, Jr. Iditarod, Wawa Gold Quest and the Can Am.  According to Ryan, his most memorable win was the 2011 John Beargrease 150 in Duluth, MN at the age of 19.

Running with Ryan today were his best friends Ernie, Danica, Earl, Sara, Grizzly, Elwood, Rocket, Stealth, Apache, Arden, Franzen and Brooks.  Ryan’s handlers are his sister, Miki Anderson, and his fiancé, Missy Carpenter.  His goal was to place in the top three – so he must be very pleased with the results.

It is always a pleasure to welcome Ryan and his team back to Michigan and we hope that he will return next year to break the tie.  Congratulations Ryan, your dogs, and your handlers.

2nd Place went to David Gill from Skandia, Michigan

3rd Place went to Martin Koenig of Seeley Lake, Montana

A big CONGRATULATIONS to all Mushers, and their dogs! Well done everyone!

winner of the midnight run for  2012 was…….

Joanna Oberg from Ignace Ontario Canada.

2012 was Joanna’s first time racing the Midnight Run. She was very excited and had wanted to do this race for years! She is a native northern Minnesotan now living in northwestern Ontario, she helps her parents operate Agimac River Outfitters, a fishing and hunting camp.

She runs Silent dog sled trips and racing kennel houses with approximately 30 dogs/puppies. She raced the Mid-distance Beargrease a handful of times as well as several other mid-distance and some local sprint races. Her handler was her long suffering and adventurous mom, and hopefully a few musher friends from Canada. :)

She would like to thank her sponsors, Agimac River Outfitters and Steger Mukluks for their support!!! And last but certainly not least her dad for all his help in training and getting ready for the races!!! He would love to have been a handler but has to stay home to plow their 16 mile long “driveway”, and man the generators/solar power and feed the remaining sled dogs and house dogs:)

2nd Place went to Jerry Trudell from Calumet MI.

3rd Place went to John Hull from Elton, WI

A big CONGRATULATIONS to all Mushers, and their dogs! Well done everyone!
